Can a primary care provider treat skin problems?

Yes. Many common skin conditions are diagnosed and treated in primary care. At Lifecare Primary Medical in Richmond, our team evaluates and treats everyday skin concerns as part of adult primary care. We are a primary care and internal medicine practice, not a dermatology office; when a skin problem needs a dermatologist, we refer you and stay involved in your overall care.

Our clinic is at 7103 South Peek Road, Suite 520, Richmond, TX 77407.

Know the warning signs

When a mole or spot needs a closer look

Have a new or changing spot checked promptly. Common warning signs of melanoma are often remembered as the ABCDEs: Asymmetry, irregular Borders, uneven Color, a Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, and Evolving size, shape or color. A sore that does not heal, or a spot that bleeds or itches, also deserves attention.

Specialist care

When we refer to a dermatologist

We refer to a dermatologist for suspicious moles or lesions that may need a biopsy or removal, severe or widespread skin disease, skin conditions that do not respond to treatment, and cosmetic dermatology. We help arrange the referral and follow up afterward.

When a skin problem is urgent

Call 911 for a rash with swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing. Seek same-day care for a rapidly spreading red, hot or painful area of skin, especially with fever, or a blistering rash with fever.
